Sarah's Comment

With each video the mask brings new life from the wood of the Alder and Black Oak, and with each video there are new feelings. I love what happens when I put a mask on, feeling transformed and free to express what I feel inside. To wear this beautiful mask would be a pleasure, but since I’m not able to do that, I close my eyes and imagine what I would feel if it were on my face. What I see in this mask is strength and wisdom.

...so from behind the mask...
Eyes wide open, my mind is calm and gentle. The smooth lines on my face are the beautiful years and journey of Life. My origins are from an island and from the bottom of a river, and I carry much wisdom from the deep roots that nourished my existence. I stand strong with the earth, and also bend and sway with the winds and tides that come and go. The transparent and lucid windows of my mind are unlocked and far-reaching, and hold the many colors of a beautiful story of life. I wander along the path and stop for a moment to look back and see my young spirit, open and free and at the same time new and untested to what life would bring.
... Now, I dance... still open and free, and also seasoned, awake, mindful, and deliberate. In touch with the nature of my existence, always connected to the beginning.

Peace! Sarah

At first I thought the screen was a piece of ebony wood in-lay and then was surprised to see it was in fact a screen. Knowing this I wonder how it will translate to the audience, as it juxtaposes the dark and light. I know it will help the performer make some different decisions.

The screen though is very cool because it is a type of screen that is very organic rather than very industrial. I think about a chicken coop when I see it rather than an urban sidewalk.
